Aidan Burke - Feel The Bow
"I find myself being whisked away on a great Irish mare, swirling and tumbling on a journey through time. I stood into the great cathedral of St. Peters in Belfast,
safe and secure in God's house, while outside the church walls only chaos ruled. God maybe watching us, he is also listening. Then with track 4, I found myself in
a kitchen of a some great mansion with o'Carolan the blind harpist and his young pupil who was playing his heart out for his master. Then in track 8 building up with a
nervous excitement, someone was telling me of Connoly and Pearce's last stand against all odds. I am at Fleadh, somewhere in Connemara, I see a beautiful girl dancing,
laughing, flirting. A young man, watching, shy, desperately trying to summon the courage to speak.
Famine, eviction, rebellion, division, injustice, religious intolerance, conflict and now finally peace and reconcilliation, this is what made the Irish Irish. But if you listen carefully
you will hear the music, that is what kept the Irish alive. The fire and passion of this album heralds the arrival of a new movement in Irish music. It knocks the dry starchiness
out of the common reel. The Irish jig is no longer an apologetic folk tune. Freedom of expression has now found its rightful place here. Aidan's playing is superbly supported by
the hard driving no-nonsense guitar playing of Philip Masure, along with the few guests. This is a great first album, and I know its only the first."
